Photojournalism and the impact of new technologies
Photojournalism employs images to tell a news story. Is a type of journalism that is different from photography because it has a strict ethics as the work must be honest and impartial. The role of the photojournalists is to create pictures that contribute to the news media, and help communities connect with one other.
With the technology, photojournalism and the media are changing.
Currently, a photojournalist can send a high-quality image in minutes.15 years ago, this process could take 30 minutes. For me, this is the good part of the advance of technology, because it makes work easier
But, at the other part, the work of a photojournalist is to show the realities and places of the world, but now you can search the same places on the internet and take the same pictures with the same quality.
The quality of the image and the immediacy is the most essential. But most important, is that anyone, professional or not, can take an image, so many newspapers and agencies have decided to buy their photographs. The New York Times is an example. This newspaper also sent out five photographers with iPhones to document the hurricane Sandy in 2012.Many photojournalists have lost their jobs. For example, in 2013, the Chicago Sun-Times fired 28 photojournalists, including a Pulitzer winner.
For these reasons, I think the work of a photojournalist should not be found in galleries like an artwork. Your work - and in the future, our work - should be more valued by the media and by people like us.
Hi,
ResponderEliminarThis topic of journalism is laudable. I really like so mucho photojournalism because it is a way of witnessing many moments in our world. Many of them cruel and brutal, but it is the opportunity for photography to give credibility to a suspicious world.
Greetings.
This is very interesting! When we had photojournalism the last semester I didn't learn much.
ResponderEliminarBut what you describe make me feel that this is a very important job and is not value as it deserve.
I think photojournalism is too important for us because now the people prefers or they believe in a photo more than words... Regrettably we only have one semester but there was very little time to learn <3
ResponderEliminarIt's a shame that the photojournalist are not rated in the media. I think their work is very important in this world saturated in images. A good photo eye is necessary in this times.

ResponderEliminarHi, I love photo journalism to, the use of the image to ilustrate or share and communicate important affaire of our ultra fast moving world this should be always an criusial matter. But somthing of what you write in the post Im not so sure thats actually like that, when you mention that photojournalism most be "impartial", in photography this can´t be accomplished by the nature of the choises in the framing process, you always left somthing out of the picture.
